    １９５２年２月５日，中国文字改革委员会在北京成立。新中国成立后，党中央、国务院向全国人民提出了文字改革的三大任务，即简化汉字，推广普通话，制定和推行汉语拼音方案。中国文字改革委员会于１９５５年发表了《汉字简化方案（草案）》，１９６４年编印了《简化字总表》，作为使用简化字的规范。《总表》共计２２３８个简化字，一共简化了２２６４个繁体字。１９６５年公布《印刷通用汉字字形表》。
